The PQ-REACT project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, was launched in 2023 with the goal of designing, developing, and validating a framework for a faster and easier transition from classical cryptography to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) across different contexts and application areas.
The project includes two open calls for third-party participation. The first call has already taken place. The second call will open on 2 April and close on 27 May. The total budget for all selected projects is €650,000, while the indicative budget for individual sub-projects has not yet been announced.
Applicants are expected to submit innovative solutions addressing specific PQ-REACT challenges, particularly in the areas of computational complexity and energy efficiency of PQC. Each proposal should fall into one of the following categories:
-
Smart meters in the energy sector (Pilot 1)
-
5G and 6G architectures (Pilot 2)
-
Context Agility Manager (benchmarking PQC) (Pilot 3)
-
Eclipse-Qrisp for PQC (Pilot 4)
All types of organizations are eligible to apply, including startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, universities, research centers, associations, and others.
Further details are now available on the European Commission’s Funding & Tenders Portal here. By the end of April, the project will also publish information on its website: https://pqreact.eu/apply/.
Last year’s Open Call 1 – DEVELOP supported six winning projects, each receiving €50,000 in funding. More details are available in an article on the CORDIS portal.
